How We Check

Updated August 2026

Every figure here comes from the provider. Nothing on this site is based on a claim we cannot point at a source for.

What we actually do

Four steps, the same for every app:

  • Read the pricing page. We take the month-to-month figure, not the annual plan divided by twelve, which is the number most sites quote as the headline price. Where a provider hides the monthly rate behind a struck-through anchor, the review says the number is reconstructed rather than published.
  • Find the real free limit. Messages per day or in total, and whether the counter resets. Where a provider does not publish it — Candy AI does not — we say that instead of guessing.
  • Read the terms. Who the company is, which country the contract sits in, how refunds work, whether cancelling is a button or an email, and what the statement descriptor says.
  • Re-check monthly. Prices, limits and content policies in this category change without notice. Every figure carries the month it was verified.

How the scores are decided

The numbers out of five are editorial judgement applied to those facts, not a measurement. There is no formula and no weighting we could publish that would make them look objective, so we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What they weigh, roughly in order: what the subscription actually includes versus what is billed again in a second currency, whether the free tier lets you evaluate the product, whether memory holds between sessions, the refund and cancellation terms, and public user ratings where they exist.

The same app scores differently on different pages, deliberately. Candy AI is first in the overall ranking and last in the free tier collection, because those pages answer different questions. Each page says which question it is answering.

What we do not claim

We have not run thirty-day tests, we do not hold subscriptions to these apps, and no review here is based on personal use. Several sites in this category say they do; we would rather be the one you can check.

We also do not accept payment for placement, do not send apps a preview of what we are going to publish, and do not remove criticism at a provider’s request. The affiliate relationship is explained in full on the disclosure page.

If we have something wrong

Prices move and policies change, sometimes within days. If a figure on this site is out of date or plainly wrong, tell us and point at the page it came from — corrections are faster than arguments. Contact details are on the contact page.
