The short version

What works
  • Best image consistency in the segment — the character’s face holds across hundreds of generations
  • Live Action video up to 120 seconds, which almost no competitor offers
  • Live voice calls, not just recorded voice notes
  • Highest user rating of the apps we track (Trustpilot ~3.8 against 2.0–2.2 for most rivals)
  • Billing shows as “EverAI” on statements, with crypto accepted
What doesn’t
  • Everything except text costs tokens on top of the subscription
  • Token prices are not published before you subscribe
  • The free tier is roughly five messages — not enough to judge anything
  • Memory degrades after 7–10 days of heavy use, by repeated reports
  • Refund window outside the EU is 24 hours and voids after 20 tokens

Candy AI is unlimited on text and metered on everything else. If the images, video and voice are the point for you, budget two to five times the subscription; if they are not, you are paying a premium for features you will not touch.

What is Candy AI?

Candy AI is a web-based AI companion platform. You pick a character from a preset library or build your own, and then chat with her in text, ask for photos, get a voice reply or a short video, and the app keeps a profile of what you have talked about so the character stays the same person between sessions.

It launched at the end of 2023 and describes itself on its own homepage as “the best AI girlfriend app”. There is no Candy AI app in either store — the product is a website, and the “app” you install is a bookmark. By traffic it is one of the three largest products in the category — roughly 21 million visits a month, with a little over half of that arriving through affiliate links rather than search.

The thing that actually separates it from the rest is not the chat. Text quality across this whole category is broadly similar, because everyone is renting or fine-tuning the same class of model. Candy AI’s difference is media: image generation that keeps a character’s face consistent, video clips of up to two minutes, and a real-time voice call rather than a recorded clip. No other app in our ranking has all three.

Is Candy AI free?

Technically yes, practically no. There is a permanent free account, but Candy AI does not publish what it includes, and independent testers report wildly different numbers — five messages in some accounts, ten to twenty in others, around a hundred in a few. That spread, combined with some testers seeing a daily quota and others a one-time credit, points at the limit being A/B tested rather than fixed.

What is consistent across every account is what the free tier does not include:

  • Images are blurred or unavailable — you can see that a picture was generated, not what is in it
  • Video and voice calls are locked completely
  • You cannot create your own character
  • Adult content is off entirely

So the free account is a preview of the interface, not a trial of the product. If you want to know whether Candy AI is worth paying for, the free tier cannot tell you. That is a deliberate design choice and it is the single most common complaint in user reviews.

If free is what you actually need, SpicyChat gives around 100 messages a day without a card and OurDream gives 50. Both are in our free AI girlfriend apps comparison.

Candy AI pricing in 2026

There is one plan, Premium, and the price depends only on how long you commit for. There is no feature ladder — the weekly subscriber and the annual subscriber get exactly the same product.

Billing cycleChargedPer monthvs monthly
Weekly$5.60 / week~$24.30+74%
Every 2 weeks$9.79 / 2 weeks~$21.20+52%
Monthly$13.99 / month$13.99
3 months$26.97 up front$8.99−36%
12 months$47.88 up front$3.99−71%

The $3.99 figure is what Candy AI advertises everywhere, and it is real — but it means paying $47.88 in one charge, twelve months ahead, for a product whose free tier gave you five messages to evaluate it. The gap between the monthly and annual rate is about 3.5×, which several reviewers describe as a trap rather than a discount.

The part that is not in the price: tokens

Premium includes 100 tokens a month. Text chat does not consume them — everything else does:

ActionTokensRoughly
Generate an image2–4$0.20–0.40
Voice call~3 per minute~$0.30 / min
Live Action video clip5–12up to ~$1.20
Create a custom character10~$1.00
Unlock a private pack100–400$10–40

One hundred tokens is somewhere between 25 and 50 images, or about half an hour of voice calling, for the whole month. Top-ups start at $9.99 for 100 tokens and run to $299.99 for 3,750, with volume bonuses on the larger packs. Reviewers who use the media features consistently report topping up $15–40 a month on top of the subscription, which puts the real bill at $25–80.

The headline price is not the price. If you only want text, $13.99 covers it and Candy AI is unlimited. The moment you want the images and video it is sold on, budget two to five times the subscription.

Is Candy AI safe and legit?

Is Candy AI legit? Yes — it is a real, identifiable company, which is more than can be said for several products in this category. Candy AI is operated by EverAI Limited, registered in Malta under company number C107181 at 56 Central Business Centre, Triq Is-Soll, Santa Venera. The company was incorporated in August 2023, employs somewhere around 44 people as a fully remote team, and has filed a US trademark on the name. Disputes fall under Maltese law.

On payments, the practical points:

  • Statements show “EverAI” — the brand name does not appear on a shared bank statement
  • Cards, Apple Pay, Pay by Bank and crypto (BTC, ETH, USDC, Litecoin) are all accepted
  • Auto-renewal is on by default, cancelled in Settings → Unsubscribe, with access running to the end of the paid period
  • Refunds are tight. Outside the EU and UK the window is 24 hours, and it is void once you have spent 20 tokens. Inside the EU and UK the statutory 14-day withdrawal right applies, less a deduction for what you have already used

On content, the company runs its own moderation system, EverGuard, and the platform is 18+ throughout. Adult material is locked on the free tier entirely.

Where user complaints concentrate is billing rather than security: reports of double charges, difficulty getting refunds inside that 24-hour window, and slow support responses — the company has itself acknowledged elevated ticket volume. Its Trustpilot score sits around 3.8, which is the highest of the five apps we track, but it is not a clean record.

Who Candy AI is for

Worth it if the visual side is the point for you. As a Candy AI girlfriend experience it is the most complete on the market. Nothing else in the category generates a character who looks like the same person twice, and the two-minute video and live calls are genuinely ahead of the field. If you will use those and you accept that they cost extra, this is the strongest product here.

Skip it if you mainly want conversation. You would be paying a premium for media you do not use, on an app whose memory reportedly starts slipping after a week or so of heavy chatting. SpicyChat costs $5.00 and CrushOn AI $6.66 for a comparable text experience.

Skip it too if you need to try before you buy. Five messages is not an evaluation, and the 24-hour refund window that voids after 20 tokens does not give you much room to change your mind.

FAQ

Candy AI, quick answers

Taken from Candy AI’s own pricing page, terms of service and help centre.

  • $13.99 if you pay month to month. Paying three months up front brings it to $8.99 a month ($26.97 charged once) and twelve months up front to $3.99 a month ($47.88 charged once). There are also weekly and two-weekly cycles, which work out at roughly $24 and $21 a month respectively — the most expensive way to buy it. All cycles give the identical product; only the commitment changes.
  • There is a free account, but Candy AI does not publish its limits and testers report anywhere between five and a hundred messages, which suggests the number is being A/B tested. What is consistent is what is locked: images are blurred, video and voice calls are unavailable, you cannot create your own character, and adult content is off. It is a look at the interface rather than a trial of the product.
  • It is run by EverAI Limited, a registered Maltese company (number C107181) incorporated in August 2023, with a published address, a data protection officer, a UK GDPR representative and a filed US trademark. Payments go through named processors and appear on statements as “EverAI” rather than the brand name. The recurring complaints are commercial rather than security-related: double charges, a 24-hour refund window that voids after 20 tokens are spent, and slow support.
  • Tokens are the second currency. Text chat is unlimited and free on any paid plan, but images cost 2–4 tokens each, voice calls about 3 a minute, video clips 5–12, and creating your own character 10. The subscription includes 100 tokens a month, which is roughly 25–50 images or half an hour of calling. Top-ups start at $9.99 for 100. If you use the media features, expect the real monthly cost to land between $25 and $80.
  • Outside the EU and UK the terms give a 24-hour window, and it is void once you have used 20 or more tokens. Inside the EU and UK the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal applies, with a proportional deduction for services already consumed. Cancelling is separate from refunding: you cancel in Settings → Unsubscribe and keep access until the end of the paid period, after which the account reverts to free.
  • The charge appears as “EverAI”, the parent company, with no reference to the brand or what it sells. Crypto is also accepted — Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC and Litecoin among others — if you would rather the payment not touch a card at all.
