What is SpicyChat?

SpicyChat AI is a text roleplay platform rather than a girlfriend app in the narrow sense. Users create the characters and publish them to a shared library, which is why the catalogue is enormous — the company and most reviews cite 138,000+, some go as high as a million, and the honest answer is hundreds of thousands with no verifiable exact number.

The positioning is explicit: Character AI without the content filters. That is also where most of its traffic comes from, and the traffic is substantial — SimilarWeb measures roughly 73.9 million visits a month and a global rank around #387, which makes it the largest product in our ranking by a wide margin. The company claimed 100 million registered users in a late-2025 press release, a figure that sits oddly against the “2M+” that reviews quote.

April 2026 brought the only substantive product news in a year: twelve languages, group chats with up to four characters, and Lorebooks for persistent world details. All three are genuinely uncommon in this category.

Is SpicyChat free?

Yes, properly. No card, no trial clock — around 100 messages a day, and the counter resets. That number counts both sides of the conversation, so it is closer to 50 exchanges, and it was reduced from 150 earlier in 2026.

What you get without paying:

• The full character library, and the ability to create and publish your own
• Group chats, with limits on session length
• All twelve languages
• Adult content, which most rivals lock behind the paywall

What you do not get: image generation, any voice, response tuning, and the larger context window. The free tier runs on a 4,096-token context with 180-token replies — about two or three paragraphs — and only two basic 8B models. There are ads across the interface, and at peak hours there is a queue whose length reviewers put anywhere between thirty seconds and, in the worst reports, tens of minutes.

Three paid tiers, all straightforward monthly subscriptions. There is no token currency, no credit pack, nothing to top up — the plan is the entire cost, which is rare here.

An annual option at roughly 17% off appears in secondary sources but does not show on the official subscribe page. Take the monthly figures as the real ones.

Is there a SpicyChat app?

Not in either mainstream store, and this matters because it is one of the most searched things about the product. What you will find under that name in Google Play and the App Store are third-party clones — some of them carrying adware — not builds from NextDay AI.

The company does ship native applications, announced alongside the multilingual release, but the browser is the primary route. On iOS the practical option is adding the site to your home screen as a web app; on Android the same, or sideloading. If you install something from a store listing, check the developer name against NextDay AI before you sign in to it.

Is SpicyChat safe?

The company is real and traceable, which is the first thing worth establishing. SpicyChat is operated by NextDay AI, a group of three registered entities: NextDay AI Incorporated in Montreal, Canada as the parent, NextDay AI USA Inc in Delaware, and NextDay AI EU Ltd in Limassol, Cyprus. It launched in 2023, employs around ten people, has raised $1M in seed funding, and holds a trademark. The CEO is named publicly.

On money:

• Statements show “NextDay AI Incorporated” — the brand does not appear
• Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Alipay, plus subscription through SubscribeStar or Boosty
• There is no formal refund policy in the terms — only an invitation to get in touch. Refunds for the unused remainder of a period are not given in practice. EU buyers can fall back on the statutory 14-day withdrawal right
• Auto-renewal is on, cancelled through Settings → Subscription → Manage

The weak spot is support rather than security. Trustpilot sits at 2.0 out of 5 — verified directly rather than quoted — and the recurring theme is messages going unanswered for weeks, with no live chat. Moderation is the other complaint: users describe the guidelines as inconsistent, with refusals arriving without explanation. Higher scores of 3.1 and lower ones of 1.3 that circulate in other reviews could not be reproduced and probably belong to clone domains.

Who SpicyChat is for

Worth it if you want breadth and are happy to drive. Hundreds of thousands of characters, group chats, twelve languages and no second currency to budget for — and you can test all of it before paying anything.

Skip it if continuity is the point. There is no cross-session memory on any tier, at any price. If you want a character who remembers last week, this is structurally the wrong product and no amount of money fixes it.
