How the five compare for anime
Every app on this page will show you an anime character. The question that separates them is whether the app can draw one — generate new images and video in that style, on demand, of your character — or whether anime is just how the profile picture happens to look. Two very different products are sold under one word.
Drawing and writing are two different products. Candy AI, Infatuated and OurDream render anime images and video of your character. SpicyChat and CrushOn hand you a far bigger cast to talk to and almost no pictures of it.
The five, ranked for anime
This is not our homepage ranking, where the apps are scored as whole products. Here one question decides the order: how well does it do anime specifically — the art style, the size of the anime cast, and what it costs to see either. That is why the app with the largest library sits fourth.

Candy AI splits its library three ways at the top level — Girls, Guys and Anime — across 100+ preset characters. That sounds cosmetic and is not: an anime character here gets everything a photoreal one gets. Live voice calls rather than recorded notes, Live Action video up to 120 seconds, and image generation that holds the same face across hundreds of prompts, which is the single hardest thing to get right in anime style.
One number says more about the priority than any marketing page: Japan is Candy’s third-largest market at 9.85% of traffic, behind the United States at 31.9% and Germany at 10.1%. The cost is the entry price. There is no meaningful free tier — roughly five messages — the plan is $13.99 a month, and images, video and calls spend tokens on top of it. Text chat itself does not.

The library is split Women / Men / Anime, and the image generator is the most flexible here: seven render styles, of which two are anime — XL Anime and Toon — plus control over pose, clothing, background and lighting. If you care about the drawing rather than the conversation, this is the most direct way to get a specific look.
What you pay for is metered rather than unlimited. Every message costs a token, so the 100 tokens in the $9.99 Starter Pack are literally 100 messages. Voice is asynchronous audio, not calls; video is pre-rendered clips of five to ten seconds. The free tier is ten messages per conversation — enough to judge the writing and the art, nothing more.

Anime is one of four styles — realistic, anime, fantasy, artistic — that you choose while building a character, and the platform claims 11 million user-made characters to browse instead. Images are HD, video runs five to thirty seconds with lip-sync, and memory carries between sessions, which matters if your anime plot spans weeks.
Its free tier is the most useful on this page: 50 messages and five images a day, plus 55 DreamCoins to start. That is enough to see how the anime renderer actually draws before any money changes hands. Paid plans start at $19.99 a month, or $9.99 effective if you pay annually, and the 1,000 monthly DreamCoins go faster than they look — reviewers report emptying them inside a fortnight of daily generating, and a failed video still spends them.

The biggest anime library, text first

Nothing else here comes close on selection. The library is user-generated — officially 138,000+ characters, with some reviews claiming several hundred thousand to a million — and anime is the dominant genre in user-made roleplay, so the anime slice alone dwarfs the curated libraries above it. Browsing it costs nothing: about 100 messages a day with no card, the full library, group chats with up to four characters, and interface and chat in 12 languages.
The catch is that this is a text platform wearing an anime costume. Image generation and TTS arrive only on the upper tier at $24.95, and there is no memory between chats on any plan — context runs 4K, 8K or 16K tokens by tier and then the story restarts. For reading and writing anime roleplay it is the best value on the page. For looking at anime, it is the worst.

Text only, but it remembers the plot

Same community-library model as SpicyChat, with the deepest memory of the five: 8K tokens free, 16K on the middle plans, 24K on the top ones, plus manual pins that hold a fact in context and World Cards that bind several characters into one shared setting. For a long-running anime storyline with a cast, that is the most useful machinery on this page.
Pictures are the problem. Reviews disagree on whether image generation exists at all — an “Album” tool has sat in closed beta for about a year, while other write-ups describe the product as text and voice only. We treat it as text. The free tier is 100 messages a month, roughly three a day, so judging it properly means paying from $6.66, softened by coins you can earn through daily check-ins. There are no content filters.
What the style labels mean
The style names in these builders are not decoration — they switch the image model, and the difference between them is larger than the difference between two apps. Three labels come up repeatedly:
- Anime / XL Anime. Flat cel shading, large eyes, clean line work. This is what most people mean by the word, and it is the style that survives being redrawn hundreds of times without the face drifting.
- Toon. Softer, rounder, closer to Western animation than to Japanese anime. Infatuated is the only app here offering it as a separate choice.
- Artistic / Fantasy. Painted rather than drawn, often semi-realistic. OurDream keeps these separate from anime, which is the honest way to label them — they read as illustration, not anime.
Under the labels, the reporting points at the same open image models everyone else uses: OurDream’s renderer is described by third-party reviews as Stable Diffusion–derived, and Infatuated’s FluxNSFW style name points at the Flux family. Neither company confirms it, so treat both as reported rather than established. The practical consequence is worth knowing anyway: apps built on the same base models produce broadly similar anime art, and what you are really paying for is the interface around it — consistency of the face, resolution, and how many generations your money buys.
Free anime AI girlfriends
Two of the five are genuinely usable without paying, and the gap between them and the rest is wide:
- SpicyChat AI — around 100 messages a day, no card, full access to the largest anime library here. Text only.
- OurDream AI — 50 messages and five images a day, which makes it the only free way to see anime art generated for your own character.
- CrushOn AI — 100 messages a month, about three a day. Enough to test the writing, not to live with it.
- Infatuated AI — ten messages per conversation.
- Candy AI — roughly five messages in total, which is a demo rather than a tier.

Anime AI boyfriends
Male anime characters are supported everywhere on this page, but with the same split: Candy AI has a Guys section alongside Anime and Girls, Infatuated has Men, and both let you set gender in the builder before choosing an anime render style. SpicyChat and CrushOn rely on the community, which in practice means the male anime cast is large and uneven.

Hentai and adult anime
All five allow adult content with fictional characters; none of them is a general-purpose assistant with a filter bolted on. What differs is where each draws its line, and each states it publicly:
- SpicyChat claims exemption from US record-keeping rules on the grounds that every visual is an artificial creation with no real models or actors involved.
- Infatuated blocks explicit or identifiable depictions of real people, and repeats that condition on its affiliate landing page.
- CrushOn requires that a fictional character read as at least eighteen both visually and in the description, and enforces it on the character card.
- SpicyChat has also tightened its filters over time, which its own community treats as a moving line rather than a fixed one.
Adult content and anime style are separate switches. An app can render excellent anime and still refuse the scene you want, and the two community-library apps — the most permissive on text — are the two that barely generate images at all.
How to choose
Three questions settle it, in this order:
- Do you want pictures or conversation? If the answer is pictures, the shortlist is Candy AI, Infatuated and OurDream, and SpicyChat is a trap despite the library size.
- How long is the story? Anything spanning weeks needs memory between sessions: CrushOn AI at 24K tokens, OurDream, or Candy AI. SpicyChat forgets everything each session at every price.
- What are you willing to spend before you know? OurDream shows you its anime art for nothing; Candy AI, the best of the five at it, shows you almost nothing until you pay $13.99.
